    Root Canal Treatment in Langley

Welcome to Sage Dental, where we are dedicated to providing comprehensive root canal treatment in Langley with care and precision. We understand the importance of your oral health, and we're here to help you maintain it.

    What is Root Canal Treatment?

A root canal, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure aimed at treating an infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal system). This infection is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and invade the tooth. Often, this can result in an abscess. The root canal procedure removes this infection, thus preserving the tooth.

Signs That You Might Need a Root Canal

Common signs that might indicate the need for a root canal procedure include:

    • intense pain when eating or applying pressure to the area
    • prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
    • a darkening or discoloration of the tooth
    • tenderness or swelling in the gums around the tooth

Always remember, your dental health is a key indicator of overall health.

Benefits of a Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment provides several benefits such as:

    • stopping the spread of infection to surrounding teeth
    • preserving the natural tooth
    • eliminating severe pain and sensitivity
    • improving the appearance of the infected tooth

It's also cost-effective, as it avoids the need for further restorative dental work.

How is a Root Canal Procedure Performed?

The root canal procedure involves several steps.

    1. First, we remove the infected pulp from the tooth.
    2. Next, the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected.
    3. Finally, the tooth is filled and sealed to prevent future infection.

We ensure that our patients are comfortable and well-informed throughout the entire process.

    Types of Root Canal Treatments

There are different types of root canal treatments available depending on the severity of the infection. These include:

    • primary treatment
    • retreatment
    • apicoectomy or root-end resection.

Your dentist will be able to recommend the most suitable type for your condition.

Delving Deeper into Root Canal Treatments

Factors Influencing the Need for a Root Canal Treatment

Several factors can contribute to the need for a root canal treatment, including severe tooth decay, repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, and damage such as a crack or chip in the tooth.

Demystifying Common Misconceptions About Root Canals

Root canals have a reputation for being painful, but with modern techniques and anaesthetics, most people feel no more discomfort than during a regular filling. They are not the cause of disease elsewhere in the body, and with proper care, a treated tooth can last as long as your other teeth.

The Recovery Process Post-Root Canal Treatment

Tips to Care for Your Teeth After a Root Canal

After your root canal procedure, it's important to follow good oral hygiene practices. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing regularly, avoiding hard foods which can cause damage, and attending regular check-ups and cleanings at the dental office.

    Making the Decision

    When to Consult a Dentist?

When you're experiencing any symptoms of tooth infection, it's essential to consult a dentist as soon as possible. Leaving an infected tooth untreated can lead to more severe complications, including the spread of infection and the loss of the tooth.

Costs Associated with Root Canal Treatment

The cost of root canal treatment can vary depending on several factors, including the severity of the problem and the type of tooth involved. However, compared to other treatment options, like tooth extraction and replacement with an artificial tooth, root canal treatment is often more cost-effective in the long run.

Is Root Canal Treatment covered by insurance?

Most dental insurance plans partially cover endodontic treatment. We recommend that you check with your individual insurance carrier to confirm the specifics of your coverage.

    Alternatives to Root Canal Treatment

Alternatives to root canal treatment include tooth extraction and replacement with a bridge, implant, or removable partial denture. However, these alternatives require more time for treatment, more procedures, and are generally more expensive than a root canal treatment.

    Patients Also Ask Us

What care is needed after a root canal?

After a root canal treatment, it's important to follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss regularly, and avoid chewing hard foods with the treated tooth until it has fully recovered. Regular check-ups and cleanings are also important for maintaining your overall dental health.

How long does a root canal procedure take?

The length of the root canal procedure varies depending on the complexity of the tooth structure and the severity of the infection. On average, a root canal treatment can take between 30 minutes to an hour per session. Some cases may require more than one session.

How painful is a root canal?

Despite popular belief, a root canal procedure shouldn't be painful. With modern technology and anesthetics, the process can be as comfortable as getting a standard filling. In fact, the pain that you feel before the treatment, due to the infection in the tooth, is significantly reduced or eliminated after the procedure.

What causes the need for a root canal?

The need for a root canal arises when the soft tissue or pulp inside your tooth gets inflamed or infected. This can occur due to several reasons, including deep decay (cavities), repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, a faulty crown, or a chip or crack in the tooth. If pulp damage is significant, it can't repair itself and bacteria in the mouth can enter the pulp, leading to infection.

I have been a patient of Sage Dental for about 5 years now, and have had a lot of dental work done by them, including implants.I had gone to Sage Dental with a badly fitting bridge, that was very uncomfortable to say the least. Dr Kara was able to give me implants and I can’t thank him enough. His staff are true professionals and amazing. I appreciate everything about this dentist, and especially the painless, sedation therapy I had for my extractions. I am convinced that Dr Kara is the best of the best at his job,and his staff are very professional and friendly too.I strongly recommend Sage for all dental work.

After getting options from multiple different dentists, I ultimately went with Dr. Kara at Sage Dental and I couldn’t be happier! My Invisalign treatment went as planned and with no surprises. I enjoy going to Sage Dental and find that the dental assistant Taeya was comforting and very supportive along my 2 year Invisalign journey. I was recommended to Sage Dental by a friend and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to my friends and family! 5 stars!
